General informations
General features
The ELLI Seites elastic couplings type GEP are produced in sizes from 95 to 630 (the coupling size corresponds to its outer diameter in mm), and are suitable for the transmission of medium and high power.
These couplings ensure a high torsional elasticity when transmitting torque between two shafts, dampening the shocks at start-up and the vibrations during rotation.
They allow for a limited misalignment between the connected shafts and, thanks to the sliding of the elastic elements, they absorb the thermal expansion of the shafts, eliminating the consequent axial thrust.
The GEP couplings are manufactured in cast iron for normal speed (peripheral speed on the outer diameter up to 35 m/sec) or in steel for higher speed (up to 50 m/sec on the outer diameter) and are machined with a high level of precision and accuracy, so as to achieve a uniform load distribution on all the elastic elements.
The couplings are normally supplied with rough bores or, upon request, with machined bores.
They are always statically balanced; dynamic balancing can be performed upon request.
Coupling selection
The selection of a coupling depends upon the transmitted power and the rotation speed of the connected shafts, in addition of course to the service factor required by the application.
Table on page 4 shows the dimensional and power data of these couplings. As far as the service factor is concerned, it depends upon the type of load of the driven machine and upon the daily duration of operation. When the coupling is installed onto a reducer shaft, it is a good technical practice to select the coupling with a service factor at least equal to the reducer's one.
From the dimensional point of view, it is necessary to check that the diameters of the shafts to be connected are compatible with the minimum and maximum bores diameters of the selected coupling.
Data required to perform a selection
The technical data required to perform the selection of an elastic coupling (and which should be given by the customer with the enquiry) are:
- diameters of the shafts to be connected
- type of driving and driven machine (in particular with reference to the presence of shocks or overloads and to the daily duration of operation)
- applied power
- rotation speed
Maintenance
Usually no maintenance is required.
The only required maintenance is the replacement of the elastic elements and the steel pins when they are worn.
